Manufacturing

Home Grown

All of the wood products at Semigood are made to order and assembled at our facilities right here in Seattle, WA. This fact along with sourcing our wood from FSC certified forests in the Midwest and Northeast allow us to greatly diminish our impact on fuel and transportation resources and deliver a product that is not only built to last, but has a conscience as well.

Sustainability

Semigood is wholly committed to sustainability, that's why we employ the most effective methods and materials. Making informed decisions are a necessary part of reducing our environmental impact. Wood has long been the renewable material of choice, and no one knows its subtle characteristics better than Semigood.

Conservation and recycling are essential to the green cause, but heirloom quality products with multi-generational lifespans are the best way to save resources and reduce environmental footprints. This type of longevity eliminates landfill contribution as well as wasted energy used during recycling. We can’t think of anything more sustainable than a beautiful, unique, and structurally strong material crafted into a product sure to stand the test of time.

We Love Wood

Every piece of timber that comes into our Seattle shop is hand selected for clarity, consistent figure and tone. Because no two pieces of wood are the same, we consider each piece of furniture an individual work of art. The methods used to build all of our products utilize the best practices of current trade technology and traditional methods of construction. We pride ourselves on being a company that manufactures products to be passed down from generation to generation, with solid hardwood construction and mortise and tenon joinery, we can guarantee it. No particle board or paper thin veneers here. Only the sides and backs of some of our larger storage units use A grade plywoods where it is necessary and beneficial to prevent issues of warping, checking and splitting.

The hardware in our outdoor pieces are made of either brass or stainless steel, materials that will not deteriorate under prolonged exposure to the elements.

Finishing

We coat all of our interior furniture with a low VOC proprietary three coat, Milesi, Acrylic Polyurethane finish. The first layer is a sealer that constricts the wood fibers, allowing the lacquer to build on the wood surface for maximum water protection. Two coats of matte Polyurethane are applied to this base to take the focus off the reflections, and keep it where it belongs, on your furniture.

Outdoor products are treated with Australian Timber Oil. This is a user-friendly application that requires minimal upkeep; only one coat annually will keep your wood protected and preserve the same original rich tone. The Timber Oil goes on nearly undetectable, streak free, and is a great clear penetrating stain for exotic woods that even the most inexperienced wood lover can apply with confidence.
